Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t

- A famous quote

In corporate world, entrepreneurship is one of the most spoken about dimension of any organization, that clearly demarcates ‘performances’ from ‘top performances’, ‘success’ from ‘inclusive and sustainable success’, and ‘management’ from ‘efficient’ and effective management’.

So, why is there so much halo behind entrepreneurship? How is this vital to the success of any business? Can every leader transform into an entrepreneur? How entrepreneurship as an institutional value, make the difference? In the preamble statement of the Entrepreneurship, as part of MSAF Values, we assert that we deliver the best and create value for customer, employees and all stakeholders. In order to achieve this, we, as teams and individuals must be oriented towards the basic tenets of entrepreneurship. We must put them to practice at team and function levels, and let the culture percolate down to the lowest echelons of the hierarchy. This eventually makes us perfect the practice of Entrepreneurship as an organizational value.

To start with, step into the shoe of the entrepreneur, and command a larger picture of the function

Charity begins at home! Until you consider yourself to be the owner of your function or profile, you cannot contribute effectively to the department or the business at large. This trait motivates you to take risks and courageously stay accountable for both positive and negative outcomes. You plan and execute from a higher altitude, looking beyond today, and thinking about tomorrow.

List down value creation to various stakeholders

Are you clear and definite about what your customers expect from you, what your investors want you to be, how your colleagues wish you deliver to them, how your vendors want you to be act, and how the society expects you to contribute. Learning is the major step towards organizing your resources, rallying behind those who deliver for you, and having specific plans for every objective. Technically, the urge to explore the value creation is the key to becoming more organized and practical.

Be as much proactive, as you are responsive

Reach out to stakeholders as an entrepreneur, approach them with a plan and a promise that is practically deliverable and measurable. This establishes you as a leader and cut above the rest

Stay transparent

Be clear and honest in your thoughts and express yourself with clarity. This is a vital character that determines entrepreneurship. As a leader, your team expects transparency from you, since their work and deliverables depend on this

Be innovative, creative, and dynamic

Think new and think different, and bring changes that positively affect teamwork, function’s and department’s efficacy, and enhance competencies from the organizational point of view. Across the world, entrepreneurs are expected to be innovative and at times, take the path less explored or not explored at all. These set precedence for future products and services that may disrupt the market

Show empathy

Nothing can be nobler than showing empathy and care. As a core dimension of entrepreneurship, it is important that you detect the strengths, weaknesses and concerns of your team members. Be empathetic, patient and kind towards them.Trust that the results will be more positive than you expect them to be.

Adapt and adopt

Don’t be awkwardly rigid in adapting to the changing trends and challenging phases. The risk-taking ability is what distinguishes an entrepreneur from others. Be bold to take that ‘one step’that will pay off in the long run.

Remember: Risk is imminent and can be always impending, but to bear it on your mind and deliver the value to your stakeholders is what entrepreneurship is all about
