Humility

The fellow human’s pain that melts your heart

The peer’s concern that motivates your thoughts

The opposite person’s weakness, that moves your actions

Most importantly, note this sensible imagination - if I were you, if this has happened to me, why shouldn’t I think or behave like you in a given circumstance

To have empathy, is to have either of the above, or all the above. Like any other circumstance or situation in our personal lives, at workplaces too, it is far more important to have empathy for others, and it is really fortunate if we get it back. Because, when we people don’t respect our feelings or emotions, we cannot move forward in many aspects. When we don’t get the right support where other’s thoughts and philosophies don’t align with ours, the teamwork, the mutual coordination, the end result, all suffer.

  • - Human beings are not born equal with respect to thinking, skills, and traits. I have a

  • weakness that surprises you to believe why it is not easy for me, when it is a cakewalk for you.

  • - You may be going through a tough situation that has not moved your team members or community members, or friends.

  • - You may be frustrated that people around you don’t think like you in many sensitive and grave areas of concern.

At MSAF, our thoughts and actions feature an avowed commitment to display empathy at every possible stage and situation. Our conviction is loud and clear – there are a set of prominent realities that are affected by either low or lack of empathy in the organization. At the same time, having empathy enriches the work culture in more than one way. Let us look into those vital aspects, and vow to exhibit and extend empathy unfailingly:

Empathy is a basic signature of being

human, that can increase confidence of people in you

What you are is a sum total of your traits, shown in your words and deeds. These make a huge difference in the way people define and determine your personality and associate with you. If you respect others’ feelings and understand their challenges, they will believe more in you, help your cause with more clarity and always come to your rescue or help when you need it.

You reap what you sow

Improves teamwork, enhances productivity

Imagine: ‘Your team member has a family problem and you stood by his side, and he came out of the challenge much faster than what was expected. He now concentrates on his work better than before, and thanks you for your support’. Don’t you believe that a pinch of empathy and a touch of compassion can work wonders, solving problems easier and sooner, get all of them back to the work, and deliver results better

Help others, they help you back

Defines work culture, redefines organization’s image

The consistent display of empathy across the organization can change the picture that internal stakeholders have towards the company, thereby drawing more talent, retaining workforce and fortifying the factors of loyalty and commitment. At the same time, it projects the company in a positive and ideal way among external stakeholders, increasing prospects in many ways.

Charity begins at home

How to be empathetic

  • Listen more and listen patiently

  • Be personal in approaching, understanding and helping

  • Always, put yourself in the opposite person’s shoe and visualize what you could have done

  • Ask people if they need your help, be communicative, proactively and responsively

  • Respect other’s privacy and limitations

  • Don’t be too fussy, intervening in other’s lives, so as to show you are empathetic. Too much is too bad

  • Time and regulate the doses of empathy, as, at times, it may be misused, and other times, misunderstood, and rarely it may hurt other’s self-respect

Always remember, being professional is not just about being successful, it is how well you show the humane side of you, in order to connect with your team members and colleagues better, and together bring the best. MSAF truly values Empathy as the most important tenet and irreplaceable facet of a genuine performer
